Quickly embed an image without hotlinking

Lifehacker shows a wonderful way to embed an image to your site/blog without actually hotlinking. Web site ImgRed (Image Redirection) lets you quickly embed an image from another web site and embed it elsewhere without leeching bandwidth from the source. Just grab the URL of the image and append it to http://imgred.com/

(e.g., http://imgred.com/http://example.com/pic.jpg). The site copies the image to their server the first time it's requested, then serves it up permanently.

Its a pain to save the image from a site locally, upload somewhere and then use that image. This alternative not only very smart but extremely time-saving. As we all know that its not a good idea to hotlink an image from someone's site and steal their bandwidth.

Yahoo Alpha is here

Yahoo!7 is about to release version 1.0 of Yahoo! Alpha beta - a new service that allows users to create personalized search engine homepage using an intuitive drag-n-drop interface.

The thing I liked about this is a very clean interface and plenty of options to create customized search engine. This is still a beta and needs some refinements like RSS search feeds, etc. but seems quite promising.

All the Google Pranks at one place

After Toilet Broadband, check this 404 page. The page is not found due to : some random fluctuation in the space-time continuum might have produced a shatteringly brief but nonetheless real electromagnetic discombobulation which caused this error page to appear...and some cool pranks from Google : Google Romance (BETA), Google Gulp(BETA), Google Lunar Job,  Google Pigeon Rank , and finally my personal favorite Google Mental Plex.

Google wireless broadband announced - straight from your toilet.

Google announces TiSP. A new FREE in-home wireless broadband service on 1st of April. The press release says (this is hilarious) ...a free in-home wireless broadband service that delivers online connectivity via users' plumbing systems. The Toilet Internet Service Provider (TiSP) project is a self-installed, ad-supported online service that will be offered entirely free to any consumer with a WiFi-capable PC and a toilet connected to a local municipal sewage system.

"We've got that whole organizing-the-world's-information thing more or less under control," said Google Co-founder and President Larry Page, a longtime supporter of so-called "dark porcelain" research and development. "What's interesting, though, is how many different modalities there are for actually getting that information to you - not to mention from you....There's actually a thriving little underground community that's been studying this exact solution for a long time," says Page. "And today our Toilet ISP team is pleased to be leading the way through the sewers, up out of your toilet and - splat - right onto your PC...I couldn't be more excited about, and am only slightly grossed out by, this remarkable new product," said Marissa Mayer, Google's Vice President of Search Products and User Experience. "I firmly believe TiSP will be a breakthrough product, particularly for those users who, like Larry himself, do much of their best thinking in the bathroom....

Yahoo Mail Announces Unlimited Storage

Yahoo is announcing that all Yahoo Mail
users will have free unlimited email storage starting in May 2007. The current storage limit is 1 GB per account (2 GB for $20/year premium users). With this change, Yahoo leapfrogs Gmail (2.8 GB and growing) and Live.com Mail (2GB). Yahoo mail currently has 250 million global users, more than any other online service (Live.com has 228 million and Gmail has 51 million users).

Et Tu Yahoo ?

When I logged in to my machine today, I got a nasty shock. My trusted Symantec Antivirus reported that my recently installed Yahoo Widgets is a Virus...and so is my beloved media player silver bullet Democracy Player. I am not sure if Yahoo Widgets is really a virus but I am not going to use it anymore. On the other hand, I don't think this is a false alarm. I have been using Symantec AV for a long time now and it has never let me down. The mind boggles to think how vulnerable we are to the threats if industry leaders like Yahoo ships virus and other nasty surprises in their 'revolutionary' path breaking software. I hate Internet.
